WHAT’S YOUR REWARD?

“Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Revelation 3:11)

God’s Word says if we obey His commands and are committed to follow the Lord Jesus, we are the children of God, purchased by His precious blood that was shed for us at Calvary’s cross. And King Jesus has made us a valuable promise: “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.” (Rev. 3:11) There is also a description of such a crown: “. . .and they had on their heads crowns of gold.” (Rev. 4:4) Five crowns are mentioned in the scriptures which are promised to the followers of Christ, on certain conditions:

(1) The Incorruptible Crown – 1 Corinthians 9:25
This crown is the reward to those who avoid indulgences and exercise self-control.
(2) The Crown of Rejoicing – 1 Thessalonians 2:19
This crown is awarded to the soul winners; King Solomon declared: “He that winneth souls is wise.” (Proverbs 11:30)
(3) The Crown of Glory – 1 Peter 5:4
This is a crown that is reserved for shepherds who care for their sheep; and they practice what they preach.
(4) The Crown of Righteousness – 2 Timothy 4:8
This one is laid aside for those who long for the appearing of Christ, who have always been loyal and faithful to the Master.
(5) The Crown of life – James 1:12
This crown is for martyrs who have endured trials and temptations for Jesus’ sake, “they loved not their lives even unto death.” (Rev.12:11)

Eternal life is a gift from God to all who believe on His Son. “He that hath the Son hath life.” (1 John 5:12) Those who receive eternal life through faith, may receive the crown of life as well. That may also mean they have endured hardship and suffered for Him, until it cost them their life. So, let us run the race with all our might, so that we may obtain the prize — the crown that God has reserved for us. (Philippians 3:14)
