QUICK, LORD, I NEED YOUR HELP!
“I called to the Lord in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.” (Psalm18:6 CSB)
King David was an ordinary human – with flaws and failures like you and me. Yet his sincerity and trust in his God are crystal clear in the words of this song he sang to the Lord on the day he was rescued from the hand of Saul, who sought to kill him. He was at a critical point in his life. David’s plea for help is from the heart; it is short but sincere. He was despondent at the lack of faithful people in his camp, so he earnestly cried out to God in prayer. Realizing his own weakness David promptly turned his focus to the Creator. In times such as we are living with an abundance of falsehood, disloyalty, betrayal, attempted assassination, and the like, this is indeed sound advice for you and me. This scripture instructs us WHAT to seek and WHERE to find it.
Then there was the encounter Jesus had with a Canaanite woman. It further confirms to us a very important principle in prayer. She was not a Jew, but a Gentile and the disciples of Jesus wanted to dismiss her. The woman had a daughter who was oppressed by demons. As she met the Lord Jesus face-to-face, notice her first words: “Lord, help me!” (Matthew 15:25) And we see the Lord Jesus responded to her plea. (a) The catalyst was her faith. He commended her for her great faith! (Matthew 15:28) The answer to the prayer was on the way; and her daughter was delivered that very hour. (b) The scriptures remind us that there is one God; one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1Timothy 2:5) (c) When we make our requests known to God in accordance with His will, He hears us.” (1 John 5:14) (d) So, your faith must not be based on men’s wisdom but on God’s power. (1Corinthians 2:5 CSB)
Let us be wise to follow the example of David as he recognized nothing short of the Almighty could meet his need of the hour. Our help is found in Him, so let us not be slow to cry out to the Master: “Quick, Lord, I need your helping hand!” (Psalm 12:1)
