LIFE ETERNAL
“At one time you were like a dead person because of the things you did wrong and your offenses against God. “ (Ephesians 2:1) CEV
Cynthia was a disabled Veteran and a recipient of regular government disability benefits. One day in 2011, she was horrified when her rent payment bounced. She wondered what had gone wrong when her benefits abruptly stopped showing up in her mailbox. She decided to go to her bank to clarify the issue. There she discovered her accounts were closed because she was supposedly dead – an obvious mistake!
In this passage of scripture, the Apostle is not mistaken. He is referring to the Ephesian believers who were at one-point slaves to sin and dead because of their separation from God. (Ephesians 2:5)
Fact: Sinless Christ died for your sins and mine.
Fact: Christ was buried in the presence of witnesses.
Fact: Christ rose gloriously on the third day.
Fact: Christ is the only way to Almighty Creator God.
With ample evidence to confirm these facts (1 Corinthians 15:1-8) Paul stresses the wonder of God’s goodness that has taken action to reverse this condition for them and for us. However, Paul also wants us to realize that true faith requires more from us: not merely acceptance and belief, but recognizing that these facts are practically applicable in your life and mine.
Fact: Eternal life can be yours – right now!
By His grace He has made us alive in Christ and now enables us to live a sanctified life of good works. As we believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we are restored to life eternal!
