WALKING IN THE LIGHT

“…He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.” (John 14:12)

If you have a desire to see these words of our Lord become reality in your life, getting started requires realizing that prayer is the mighty force behind all the action. As you diligently practice the art of prayer, you will see your life being molded into what God intended when He formed you in your mother’s womb. Now it is easy to consider these words being addressed to the disciples of Jesus’ day. Or perhaps He is talking to the clergy or those considered “super anointed” religious folk. But friends, as I read and re-read that verse, it became increasingly clear that it was meant for “those who believe in Jesus” – all those who believe in Jesus. So, now the question is: Are you a believer? If you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, Jesus was talking to you! Imagine, you are also going to do the works that Jesus did! But you are going to receive the potential to do more than that; even greater works than He did!

The next question is: How do we do what Jesus did? He gave us the answer in the following verses: “Whatsoever ye ask in my name, that will I do. . . If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:13-14) So, in short, we will accomplish the greater works through the mighty power of prayer. This is the way we communicate with the Almighty. It is through prayer that we develop a deep relationship with our heavenly Father. The scriptures reveal instances when the presence of the Lord was so powerful in the temple that the priests could not do their regular duties. This reminds us today; the sheer majesty and intensity of God’s glory can interrupt our mundane activities. When we invite the awesome presence of God into our life, we will learn it has power to transform us for the better. (2 Chronicles 5:14 NIV)

This is the next step in our self-surrender to the leadership of God to guide us into His providential plan. So may we walk in the light, with our hand in the Master’s hand, doing the works of the Lord Jesus and experience the thrill of even greater works through prayer!
