HAVE YOU LOOKED UP LATELY?

“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky shows His handiwork.”

(Psalm 19:2) TLV

If you look around these days, atheists are a dime a dozen. It reminds me of a statement the President of the United States made some years ago. He said: “I am unable to understand them. . . and I have an unholy desire to invite some atheists to dinner and serve up the most fabulous gourmet dinner ever concocted, and after dinner ask them if they believed there was a cook!”

Spring has arrived in our part of the world. Flowers are blooming; there is a splash of color everywhere you look. As I drive home from work, I catch fleeting moments of the setting sun through the treetops – these are the most beautiful, awe–inspiring moments of the day. Even more than the blue skies and the fluffy clouds floating above, or the glittering skyline with the impressive high-rise buildings towering into the night sky, to gaze at the sunrise or the sunset can almost take your breath away. One can easily be lost in the vast, overwhelming beauty and splendor of the Creator’s handiwork.

King David had obviously looked up and observed creation in all its splendor when he said, “God’s glory is on tour in the skies, God-craft on exhibit across the horizon.” (Psalm 19:1 MSG). God has given us richly all things to enjoy. (1Timothy 6:17; 2 Peter 1:3) Like the atheist, many of us are not enjoying much, but it is not an omission on God’s part. The awesome work of God’s hand is visible to those who are willing to look up, look around and observe the amazing manifestation of His mighty power. We are the ones who need to open our eyes and see the goodness and majesty of His work all around us. Then we may need to change what we believe. Whatever the crisis you face this day, there is nothing too hard for the almighty Creator God to do on your behalf. The prophet declared: “Ah sovereign Lord God! You Yourself made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!” (Jeremiah 32:17 CSB) Look up, look around you, seek His face; discover even a glimpse of the glorious power of the Maker of all the universe.
