CAN GOD REALLY USE ME?

“What matters most to me is to finish what God started: the job the Master Jesus gave me of letting everyone I meet know . . . this . . . extravagant generosity of God.” (Acts 20:24) MSG

Have you ever asked yourself the question: Can God really use me? Actually, the real question is: Where do I fit in?

For many in our circle, the past few days have been sad. On August 22, 2024, at UVA Medical Center, a special couple watched in agony as their miracle child was peacefully raised to eternal life. Just 14 years ago he was born prematurely and suffered an injury at birth which kept him confined to medical facilities for a long time. Many major surgeries followed. With God’s grace, he contradicted the medical verdict and proved his will to live by crawling, walking, talking and jumping. He was truly an example of obedience to God’s call to love your neighbor. (Eph. 5:2) During his short life, his loving personality was an unmistakable bridge. Sign language enabled him to share his charm with family and strangers alike. He and I shared two favorites: radio worship music and windy days. God used him to shake the salt, shine the light, and spread the fragrance wherever he went. (2 Cor. 2:15)

When it is our turn to enter heaven, we can have great joy and satisfaction because we fulfilled the purpose we were created for – not just from successfully doing our own preference. On earth, Jesus experienced joy and satisfaction by doing what the Father sent Him to do. Going to the cross was tough, but He received the grace to accomplish it. The result is that many lives are touched and changed around the world. May we keep in mind His words: “as the Father has sent me, so send I you.” (John 20:21) So, it is true that God can really use you and me.

God had a purpose for your life when He formed you in your mother’s womb. Perhaps as a parent, a professional, a musician or a movie star? As you are faithful to it, your life will be valuable in God’s sight. Then you will have the privilege of the Lord welcoming you saying: “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” (Matt. 25:21) Remember: God can really use you for His purpose – regardless of the stress and struggles of life.
