WHAT MUST YOU DO? WHAT DO YOU GET?

“Happy are those who keep His decrees and seek Him with all their heart.” (Psalm 119:2)

Meditation is an art to be practiced. It is a matter of mastering the art of being alone with Christ. We read in the gospels that when the disciples “were alone with the Master, He expounded all things to them.” This can very well be your experience today. The disciples had to learn to send the multitudes away, before they could be alone with the Lord. So, we too must let things go, one by one. Release every distraction – one by one, so you too can be alone with Jesus. Then you can have the perfect atmosphere to simply be “God and you.” It will be a good place to focus on meditation.

WHAT YOU DO:

  1. Follow the precepts of God. (Psalm 119:4)
  2. Seek Him with all your heart. (Psalm 119:2b)
  3. Commit to be obedient. (Psalm 119:5)
  4. Treasure the Word of God. (Psalm 119:11)
  5. Proclaim the judgments of God. (Psalm 119:13)

WHAT YOU GET:

  1. Happy are they that keep His decrees. (Psalm 119:2a)
  2. You will not be ashamed. (Psalm 119:6)
  3. Your heart will be filled with praises. (Psalm 119:7)
  4. You will never be abandoned. (Psalm 119:8)
  5. You will delight in God and His Word. (Psalm 119:16)

To follow the precepts of God will take a sacrifice of your time; it will enable you to learn the Word of God. Committing it to memory will further enrich your life and provide strength in times of need. As you recall the Word of God in your heart, you will sense the presence of the Holy Spirit of God with you. Diligently seeking the Lord will spur you on to obey His statutes. Under no circumstances can God’s Word be stolen from you. Besides, it brings with it a sense of peace and joy into the depths of your soul. The Spirit of God will continue to open your eyes of understanding to the scripture and the practical application of it in your life. With your consistent and intentional commitment to meditate on God’s Word, you will discover the work of the Holy Spirit in transforming your thoughts, attitudes and lifestyle according to God’s Word. You will find it a rewarding exercise that glorifies God.
